Almost two weeks after a horrific accident along the Kuru Kururu Soesdyke/Linden Highway, 46-year-old Rookmin Persaud of Kaneville Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara died while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).The housewife reportedly took her last breath on Wednesday evening. Persaud was an occupant of the minibus which was involved in the accident. So far, four persons have now perished from the two-vehicle smash-up which occurred on Mother’s Day.One day after the accident, six-year-old Arianna Hughes of Rohan Housing Scheme and Back Half, Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), died. Her mother, Shennelle Hughes, 31, also died a few days later.Shennelle Hughes was reportedly the driver of the motorcar on the day of the fatal accident. Quinton Odle, 42, of Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara, also diedThe now dead woman moments after the accident on Mother’s Dayfollowing the smash-up.However, Prem and Lakeram Persaud of Kaneville, EBD; Jada Enmore, nine; and four-year-old Tyrese Authur who were admitted patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital following the accident were discharged.Three of the four people who have died were occupants of motorcar PMM 548 which collided head-on with the minibus bearing registration number BHH 8451.The minibus was reportedly heading to Grove, EBD, while the motorcar was heading towards Linden. Initial investigation revealed that the driver of the motorcar, Shennelle Hughes, drove into a pool of water, causing her to lose control of the vehicle. She swerved into the path of the minibus resulting in a collision.Several persons from both vehicles sustained injured and were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where they were treated but those with the more serious injuries were transferred to the GPHC.Of the eight, four persons are now dead while the others are said to be in stable conditions and are resting at home.
